CEO David Karp:  He is a web developer and internet entrepreneur who founded Tumblr, one of the internet’s fasting growing startups.  He was fascinated with tumblelogs (short-form blogs) and wondered why one of the large blogging platform companies had not established their own.  So in 2007, at the age of 21, he launched Tumblr from the bedroom of his mother’s apartment in New York.

The Tumblr platform lets its users curate pictures, videos and text in one place online.  Karp’s vision is to have Tumblr be the world’s best tool for creative expression.  His passion is to provide a platform with tools that people really want to use.  In May 2013, Yahoo reached a deal to buy Tumblr for 1.1 billion dollars.  As part of the deal deal, Karp remained CEO.  According to Tumbr’s website, as of June 1, 2016, it hosted more than 297.9 million blogs.

David Karp and Tumblr

Sometimes in business, success comes not by reinventing the wheel but by simply building a better mousetrap. That’s exactly what CEO David Karp did when he founded his microblogging site, Tumblr. This book introduces readers to Karp and follows him from his humble beginnings as a shy kid to the head of one of the most successful tech companies today.

He grew his business simply because he believed he could build a simpler, leaner blogging platform that was easier to use. His idea was a hit, and Tumblr’s success took off. As with most companies, though, Karp’s business experienced growing pains from its rapid expansion and struggled to turn a profit.

However, readers learn that Karp, the once introverted kid who transformed into a confident leader, is looking toward further growing Tumblr into an even greater success. With fact sheets on the founder and the company itself, readers see that it’s possible to turn a simple idea into a revolutionary business.
