Chicago Police Shooting Protest: A video of the incident was made public Tuesday and spurred largely peaceful protests around the city over the past several days. Civil-rights activists are wondering why it took over a year to file murder charges against a white policeman accused of shooting a black teenager (Laquan McDonald) 16 times.
Other activists—including those affiliated with Black Lives Matter, Rainbow PUSH Coalition, the Rev. Michael Pfleger of St. Sabina Catholic Church and Chicago Teachers Union President Karen Lewis—called for demonstrators to shut down the city’s Magnificent Mile retail area on Black Friday, November 27, 2015.
Rev. Jesse Jackson stated in an interview on Thursday, “We want justice and jobs for Christmas.” He also said the protests would spread and intensify without further investigation into the delay in filing charges against Chicago Police Officer Jason Van Dyke. Read more… wsj.com
