Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2016 – 30th Anniversary Celebrations:  People all across metro Atlanta and across the United States have been celebrating the King Holiday observance. This holiday came to be in 1983 after Congress passed a bill and President Ronald Reagan signed it to set aside the third Monday in January to remember the civil rights pioneer and Atlanta, Georgia native. The holiday was observed for the first time on January 20, 1986.

According to WSB-TV 2 Atlanta News, “Delta Air Lines donated $40,000 to secure the Georgia World Congress Center and to assist in paying for outstanding expenses related to MLK’s dinner. In addition to Delta Air Lines, more than 2,000 volunteers and multiple donors, such as Coca-Cola, joined to make this year’s MLK dinner festival the largest to date.”

Hundreds attended Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA for the annual King Holiday Service.   WSB-TV 2 News reporter Audrey Washington stated that Dr. Bernice King received a standing ovation after she gave a powerful speech at the church service.  See more… wsbtv.com
