About Mark Cuban
Mark Cuban is an American business leader, investor and author. He is widely known as the owner of the NBA team the Dallas Mavericks and being an investor on the ABC reality television show, Shark Tank. Cuban began his journey as entrepreneur at the age of 12 by selling garbage bags to buy some shoes he wanted. According to Forbes magazine, he has an estimated net worth of $3.3 billion.
Attending Indiana University
In high school, he hustled his way to extra income by selling stamps and coins. He attended the University of Pittsburgh, then transferred to Indiana University, where he graduated in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Management. He chose Indiana University because their Kelley School of Business had the least expensive tuition of the top business schools.
Broadcast.com – Business Venture
In 1990, Cuban sold his first business, MicroSolutions, to Compuserve for $6 million. He invested some of the profits from this deal to start AudioNet with business partner Todd Wagner in 1995. After building their business to success, Cuban and Wagner sold their business to Yahoo for $5.7 billion in 1999. After the sale, Cuban diversified his investment portfolio to avoid losses from a stock market crash.
Purchasing the Dallas Mavericks NBA Franchise
In 2000, Mark Cuban realized one of his dreams when he purchased the Dallas Mavericks franchise from Ross Perot Jr. for $285 million. Over the years, the franchise suffered many ups and downs. Under his leadership, the Dallas Mavericks finally won an NBA title in 2011 by defeating the Miami Heat.
Other Business Ventures
Cuban is co-owner of 2929 Entertainment, a media and entertainment company with holdings that cover all aspects of the entertainment pipeline. These holdings include movie production company 2929 Productions, theatrical and home entertainment distributor Magnolia Pictures, the Landmark Theatres chain and high-definition cable networks HDNet and HDNet Movies.
