About ConnectMed International

ConnectMed is an organization that improves access to surgical care in underserved communities, and supports sustainable healthcare through education, partnerships and telemedicine. In many parts of the world, the demand for specialized care is greater than what the local health care community can meet.

They believe that comprehensive healthcare should be accessible to everyone, regardless of where they live or their financial means. Their current focus is on the treatment of craniofacial deformities and disfiguring injuries.

Living with these conditions often comes with serious obstacles to leading a “normal”, productive life. Patients often live in social exclusion or isolation, and do not attend school, date or marry, or find employment.

About Dr. Amanda Gosman

Dr. Amanda Gosman, a board-certified plastic surgeon, founded ConnectMed in 2010. Having worked with several international medical groups in Latin America, she wanted to retain the best parts of these “medical mission” organizations but also create her own innovative model that would provide care and strengthen the infrastructure of local health care systems.

Dr. Gosman is an associate professor of plastic surgery and director of Pediatric Plastic Surgery at UC San Diego Health System. At UC San Diego School of Medicine, she is director of the Plastic Surgery Residency Program and the Craniofacial Fellowship Program. She is also the director of the Fresh Start Clinic for Craniofacial Anomalies at Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego, where she performs reconstructive surgeries for children at no cost.
