0:00 i didn’t see god more as the loving 0:03 father per se i saw him more as the 0:05 correct 0:05 father like you do something wrong and 0:07 he’s ready to just 0:08 beat you back into submission rather 0:10 than he had grace 0:12 raised in the church corey heard a 0:14 sermon at 16 that made him want to give 0:16 his life 0:17 to christ however the guidance he then 0:20 sought from the pastor 0:21 and church leaders only robbed him of 0:24 hope they kind of treated me as if 0:27 i needed to work to earn god’s love but 0:30 it wasn’t like they were saying 0:32 that directly it was like how i was 0:35 treated it was 0:36 um i couldn’t sing on the choir unless i 0:40 reached a certain level of like holiness 0:43 or you know i couldn’t 0:44 go out to dinner with them like they 0:46 would take the youth on groups 0:48 and leave me out because i needed to 0:50 work on my salvation more and i was 0:52 confused i didn’t know what any of that 0:53 meant 0:54 i was getting ignored and you know eyes 0:56 rolled at me and 0:58 when i get prayer it was always some 1:00 kind of uh 1:01 god’s not pleased with me kind of word 1:03 being that they were the mouthpieces 1:05 of god they were our their pastors 1:08 ministers 1:10 the way they treated me is how i felt 1:11 like this is how god is speaking to me 1:14 this is how god feels about me 1:15 and this is his view of me i thought 1:17 because i had to earn their love 1:19 apparently that’s how god feels as well 1:23 after the constant rejection from those 1:25 in the church 1:26 corey fell into a deep depression 1:29 it pushed me into like a i want to say a 1:33 season of isolation where i just 1:35 didn’t want to be around people and when 1:38 i did i never i always found myself 1:40 comparing myself to them because 1:41 the other um young people per se were 1:44 were being treated very good 1:46 and some of them weren’t even giving 1:48 their hearts to god and it had me 1:50 just crying and not even fully 1:52 understanding what i’m crying about 1:54 when they told me like i wasn’t good 1:56 enough i needed to 1:57 get better i immediately like i started 2:00 fasting and i really prayed i write my 2:03 bible for hours so i felt by myself 2:05 and since i wasn’t being accepted what 2:08 am i doing wrong and that’s where 2:09 depression came in 2:10 desperate to know he mattered to someone 2:13 corey 2:14 ran away i jumped out of my window and i 2:17 ran away i left 2:18 home for at least a month and no one 2:20 ever sought me out 2:21 i came back and when i went to church 2:23 the pastor had this 2:25 he said he had a revelation of the book 2:26 of life and he was saying god revealed 2:28 to him 2:29 the names that were in it and he were 2:30 like if you want to know if your name’s 2:32 in this book 2:33 you know come get in line i got there 2:35 and this man was like oh you’re going to 2:37 hell and i was like 2:39 you know what i’m done i’m like i’m 2:41 fasting i’m praying i’m reading my bible 2:42 i’m doing everything 2:44 the bible says i’m supposed to do to get 2:46 there and you mean to tell me that 2:48 i’m still not meeting the expectations 2:50 i’ll never be good enough for you and 2:52 i just didn’t want to be here no more i 2:54 give up 2:56 corey tried to erase his pain with 2:59 alcohol in women 3:00 still feeling empty one night he took 3:03 enough pills to end the pain 3:05 permanently i was out and i had this 3:08 vision 3:09 um it was a vision of an angel and it 3:11 was this really big figure so i was a 3:13 little afraid and it just he said and 3:15 today i’m gonna break the power of 3:16 depression off of your life that you’re 3:18 called to reach the nations 3:20 he said that to pursue purpose and to 3:23 not be afraid of the faces 3:25 of people and i woke up i felt 3:28 immediately i felt better i felt free of 3:31 that weight 3:32 soon after corey met a young christian 3:35 woman 3:36 named siobhan she was so on fire 3:39 and meeting her and talking to her it 3:42 was something about how she saw me 3:44 and it was aside from how everybody else 3:46 saw me that made me 3:48 open up to her and trust her you know 3:50 because she saw things in me 3:51 that i’m doing now that i had no idea 3:53 that was in me to even do 3:55 so that opened me up like man let me let 3:57 me see what this girl’s about you know 3:59 and she pushed me 4:00 into that place where i was able to get 4:03 free 4:04 and get out of that church corey and 4:06 siobhan 4:07 fell in love and got married for the 4:10 first time 4:11 corey witnessed the unconditional love 4:13 of jesus 4:14 my wife she’s very observant so she 4:17 already knew that there was something 4:19 broken within me 4:20 so she was praying behind the scenes and 4:22 she was always encouraging me as well 4:24 but it was through her love i got to 4:25 really see 4:27 god’s love through her like the right 4:28 way 4:30 seeking direction corey took a prayer 4:32 walk 4:34 he asked god a question so 4:37 as i was praying in the park i asked god 4:40 like 4:40 what more do you want from me what more 4:42 do i got to do 4:44 and he said you don’t have to do 4:46 anything more but what i 4:47 do need from you is that depression 4:49 that’s when he revealed to me that the 4:51 core 4:51 was not depression he told me that it’s 4:53 really rejection 4:54 is what my struggle is depression was 4:57 just a symptom of the rejection that i 4:59 was faced with 5:00 and he literally spoke and told me i 5:02 just want i want that weight you’ve been 5:04 carrying around because it doesn’t 5:05 belong to you 5:06 because god’s not just gonna snatch it 5:08 from me i gotta freely give it to him so 5:10 i yielded 5:11 that rejection to god which literally i 5:12 just said god you take it 5:14 and that’s when that burden truly lifted 5:16 off of my life he 5:17 when i gave it to him and all of the 5:20 pain and all those 5:21 those memories that came with it and he 5:23 set me free 5:24 right there in the park i felt it 5:26 dropped i felt it lived 5:27 and i i no longer struggled with not 5:30 wanting to be here anymore 5:40 finally knowing he was loved by god 5:42 corey began public speaking 5:44 and rapping under the alias change 5:47 sharing openly about his struggles and 5:50 the source 5:50 of his freedom grace isn’t based on 5:54 my performance but it’s based on my 5:56 position in him 5:57 it’s your position in him that gives you 6:00 access to his grace 6:01 it’s nothing you can work for he’s 6:04 rooting for me and he’s not waiting for 6:05 me to fail so that he can 6:07 condemn me he’s really loving me but 6:10 after 6:11 that that encounter with god in the park 6:13 when that spirit lifted 6:15 i was able to reach people deeper 6:16 because now it’s hard to free people 6:19 from something that you’re not 6:20 completely free from 6:21 god had began to use me to to speak into 6:24 the lives of 6:25 countless people with the same testimony 6:27 of breaking 6:28 that chain of depression off of their 6:30 life and even other things like 6:32 rejection and fear 6:34 be the the giant slayer of depression i 6:37 want to travel the whole world rapping 6:38 and singing 6:39 but making sure people understand when 6:41 the concert is over 6:42 that no matter who you are and where you 6:44 are god loves you and he always will it 6:48 feels great to be free 6:49 my name is david show me goliath my name 6:51 is david show me 6:52 goliath it feels great to be free and it 6:56 is 6:56 for freedom that christ has set each one 7:00 of us free 7:01 and i love that testimony because a lot 7:03 of people believe that you have to be 7:05 perfect to come to god that until you 7:09 reach some level of perfection then 7:13 god will bestow love on you that’s not 7:16 true friend 7:17 that is not true and if you are like 7:21 somebody like corey who’s been told by 7:23 others in the church or 7:24 other believers that you have to do this 7:26 this this you have to pray 7:28 20 hours a day and read the entire bible 7:31 in one month in order to receive 7:33 salvation in order to receive and really 7:36 feel and experience god’s love 7:39 that’s a lie it is a lie 7:43 it’s a lie from the enemy because he 7:46 knows when we realize 7:48 that god’s grace and love is for all of 7:51 us and we don’t have to do anything but 7:53 believe in jesus 7:54 he wants to throw lies and accusations 7:56 at you that make you not 7:58 believe the truth because the truth sets 8:01 us free you just saw it in cory’s life 8:04 what is the truth the truth is that 8:07 god doesn’t want anyone to be separated 8:09 from him 8:11 so much so that he sent his son down on 8:13 this earth 8:14 to die a brutal death on the cross for 8:16 our sins for my sins for your sins 8:19 so that we could walk in intimate 8:23 relationship with him and 8:24 all we have to do this is the only thing 8:27 is believe believe in our heart 8:31 and declare it with our mouth that jesus 8:34 is lord 8:36 experience that grace today friend the 8:38 grace of god which is the unmerited 8:41 favor of god it’s nothing we do 8:45 it’s just his lavish love 8:49 he loves you without rivals so receive 8:52 that today receive the love of the 8:55 father and forgive those who have just 8:57 spoken 8:57 lies over your life believe in your 9:00 heart 9:00 that
