In addition to helping kick off The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign, the Dallas Cowboys work with them each year to select 11 deserving youth for the Dallas Cowboys PLAY 60 Team.
The 11 team members are chosen based on their commitment to PLAY 60, as well as their demonstration of the Army’s five core values – Passion, Compassion, Bravery, Uplifting Spirit and Trustworthiness – and invited to be the Cowboys’ special sideline guests during their Thanksgiving Day game.
The Salvation Army Angel Tree Program
Every year the entire Cowboys organization is invited to support the The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Program wherein players, coaches, executives and staff supply toys and necessities for hundreds of Angels in need. The program, which makes Christmas brighter for nearly 60,000 children and special needs senior citizens in the DFW Metroplex alone.
In an effort to enhance the program, the Cowboys have partnered with Bank of America and the North Texas Food Bank since 2013 to provide hardy holiday meals for thousands of families receiving Angel Tree gifts in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area.
Salvation Army Disaster Relief – DFW Metroplex
When disaster strikes, The Salvation Army is often the first on the scene to offer food, shelter, clothing, spiritual comfort and more. The Cowboys are proud to have assisted the Army in their relief efforts in the DFW Metroplex and beyond, most recently after deadly tornadoes struck two nearby towns in Texas—Granbury and Cleburne—as well as Moore, Oklahoma.
The Cowboys partnered with CBS 11 and Albertsons Market to take donations through phone banks and at the grocer’s registers, raising thousands of dollars in record time.
(CBS-DFW) It has become an annual tradition. Each year, The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign officially gets underway at the Dallas Cowboys game on Thanksgiving Day. And this year will be no different.
