He declared for the NBA draft upon graduation and was selected with the 13th overall pick in the 1996 NBA draft. He was drafted by the Charlotte Hornets, who traded him to the Lakers. In 2006, he scored a career-high 81 points against the Toronto Raptors.
In 2018, Bryant won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film for his film Dear Basketball. He holds the NBA record for the most seasons playing with one franchise for an entire career. He’s an 18-time All-Star, a 15-time member of the All-NBA Team, and 12-time member of the All-Defensive team.
He’s the first guard in NBA history to play for at least 20 seasons. He was chosen to start every All-Star Game until his retirement for a record 18 consecutive appearances. He won five NBA championships with the Lakers.
