How to Choose the Best Walking Shoes for You

All shoes are not alike, so you have to pick and choose the best walking shoes for your to use. These are some important aspects to consider when selecting the right shoe.

1) Shoe Size Differences

Don’t choose your walking shoes by the size marked inside. Pick a shoe that feels comfortable on your feet. Even though you measure your feet. Shoe sizes can vary by style and also by companies.

Make sure your feet have enough room in these parts of the shoe: A) toe area B) over the instep C) across the ball of your feet D) the shoes should also fit firmly around your heels.

2) Shoe Width and Length

Shoe width is just as important as it’s length to consider when you are buying a shoe. a) The proper shoe width is the one that fits the widest part of your foot, at the base of the toes. b) There should also be good 1/2-inch (1.27 cm) to 3/8-inch (0.9525 cm) space between the end of the shoe and your longest toe.

3) Keeping Your Shoes on Your Feet

Shoes with Laces or Velcro straps let you adjust your shoe fit if swelling or any other condition happens to your feet. The shoe shape can injure a walker’s foot when he/she walks with the incorrect shoe on.

Those various conditions may cause an sore on your foot while it has a shoe on. The Velcro straps are good they will keep your shoes on in place and prevent the shoes from slipping off and make you walk in a not normally way.

Being flat footed you adjust your walking to compensate for being in this position. Doing this your foot can injure you, your knees or lower back, by making them compensate to stroll in this position. This is not a good thing to happen.

If you are a diabetic and have a history of foot problems you must fasten your shoe on your foot correctly so this will prevent the shoe from slipping and causing a foolish foot problem. You should buy a properly fitting shoes which are with enough room in the shoe and made with a soft toe cover and a shock-absorbing sole to walk correctly.

4) Pedorthists and Podiatrists

If you have diabetic foot numbness, a foot sore may develop, or any changes in your foot’s bone structure, you should be fitted by a board-certified Pedorthist or Podiatrist to buy the best walking shoes. They are highly trained in the assessment, fit and modification of footwear and foot appliances.

People who lose some feeling in their feet tend to buy shoes that are too tight. The size that “feels” right is often too small and then the shoes may end up causing some foot problems.

5) External Shoe Modifications

Any external shoe modification should be recommended by a foot professional. Some people need to get modifications on the outside of their shoes. These are usually done by the place where the shoe was purchased.

6) Foot Orthotics or Shoe Inserts

There are pre-made and custom-made foot orthotics available for you, they both do a good job. You have a choice for the one that you find is best for your feet. They relieve shoe pressure on the foot and absorb any ground shock.

7) Replace worn-out shoes to prevent a foot injury

All the best walking shoes eventually wear down even if they still feel comfortable when walking. Worn out shoes don’t provide you with the best foot support or shock absorption.  My advice is that you should pay attention to the condition of your shoes and when they get worn you should consider getting a new pair.
