Lizzie asks…

Why do Messianic “Jews” insist on their Judaism despite their affiliation with Christian denominations?

Virtually every Messianic Congregation is affiliated with some Christian denomination; these “fellowships” or “synagogues” can be found on the directories among the Assemblies of God, the Episcopalians, the Presbyterians, and the Southern Baptist Convention. At the very least, they’ll appear as “Christian— Nondenominational” in the registry of the town they’re established in.

Cee Harmon answers:

Hi Lizzie,

Messianic Judaism is a Biblically based movement of people who, as committed Jews, believe in Yeshua (Jesus) as the Jewish Messiah of Israel of whom the Jewish Law and Prophets spoke.  It is believed that all sin has been atoned for by Jesus’ death and resurrection. Any Jewish laws or customs that are followed are cultural and do not contribute to salvation.

According to the Messianic Judaism statement of faith, they  acknowledge that the New Covenant body of believers is composed of both Jews and Gentiles who have received Yeshua the Messiah as the Promised Redeemer. The “middle wall of partition” has been broken down and now we worship the God of Israel together (I Corinthians 12:13; Ephesians 2:13-14).
