This video features, Maggie Josiah, founder, and Director of African Hospitality Institute, a vocational school teaching hospitality industry skills to Ugandan teenagers.

About Maggie Josiah

She is a survivor of childhood sexual abuse by both her parents, who forced her to work from age five in the worlds of pornography and prostitution.  After she escaped from her parents, Maggie began a new life in Seattle, working quietly in the hospitality industry.

Soon after, she became a Christian and spent the next 18 years getting free from her past suffering and pain. Maggie became active in her church, and eventually became a business owner of both a catering and house cleaning service.

African Hospitality Institute. We fed 55 families at the ranch through your generosity! And we’re not finished- because of your boldness, we are praying to feed 35-40 of the most vulnerable families in Ntuuti and now we’ve found 5 boreholes to provide clean water in our community…

“Turn Right at the Dancing Cow: A Miracle in Uganda” with John Shimer

I met Maggie Josiah in the fall of 2001, when she was the cleaning lady in the common hallways of a very upscale condominium building where my wife and I lived. Through an odd “hallway-conversation-relationship”, we became friends. She kept surprising me with her intelligence, her competency and experience in business (she owned the company that cleaned our hallways), and her art (as she is an accomplished artist).

Then, she went on a missionary trip to Africa for six weeks, and when she returned, she told me she was going back to Uganda and start a vocational school in the bush (read jungle) for the “lost children” of that nation. When I asked her how she was going to make this happen financially, she replied, “I don’t know, but I am certain God will show me the way.”

African Hospitality Institute is a vocational training program, accepting 10 applicants per year to learn skills in the hospitality industry in order to secure employment in the tourist industry of East Africa. It combines a unique hands-on-vocational training with intensive discipleship and emotional healing.

Creating Futures at the African Hospitality Institute

This led her to found the African Hospitality Institute (AHI). Josiah put together her knowledge gained from working in the hospitality industry for over 25 years and set off to a rural community in Uganda, The Ekitangaala Ranch, in 2006 at the age of 54. There, Josiah constructed a 10 room guest house and developed a vocational training program.
