Palm Sunday is a day to celebrate the arrival of the King. A prophecy over 500 years old has come true. Jesus arrives riding on a donkey and the people rejoice! One of the most powerful points from this text is that this is the first time He publicly announces that He is the one they have been waiting for. He is the “Son of David”. The King has come! This brings hope to all, because often times when we have to wait for long periods of time, we can lose hope.
Pastor David along with his wife Kelly planted Freedom Foursquare Church in 2002. David felt a specific call of God to minister to the people that live in the Outer Southeast part of Portland and it has been a joy to see the miraculous things that God has done over the years, in this community.
Sunday gatherings are the primary way we gather as a church to worship together, learn from Scripture, pray for one another, and create space to hear from the Spirit. More than two hours on a Sunday, church is about sharing life together. Bridgetown Communities are the way we gather during the week around the table to be the people of Jesus in our neighborhoods. This is how we practice the way of Jesus together in Portland.
We’re a group of people who are passionate about sharing God’s love with our community. We gather each week to experience God through worship and a relevant and practical Bible-centered message. We don’t claim to have it all figured out and recognize that each of us is in a different spot in our journey with Christ. Whatever your thoughts on church and beliefs about God, you’re welcome here!
Whatever your story is, our prayer is that you feel welcomed, encouraged, and inspired in your journey of faith. Below you’ll find some information about what you can expect when coming to a Sunday service. Our Sunday services are a time to worship together through song, receive dynamic teaching from Scripture, and celebrate communion.
The Gathering Church exists to celebrate and display the beauty and glory of Jesus Christ. We desire to acknowledge and recognize our need for one another as members of the Body of Christ, to be a part of a local church is to belong to Jesus Christ. God is calling a people, not a loose association of individuals, and the local church is where this reality is lived out.
