So excited to have my sissy Jackelyn joining us today for an awesome lower back stretching workout!! One thing a lot of people deal with is low back pain – either because they’re sitting at a desk all day or hunching over. This stretch routine is going to relieve pressure from your lower back as well work on your glutes and abs. It’s gonna feel goooood. Let’s do it.

YOUR MOVES:

Child’s pose
Rabbit’s pose
Rolling like a ball
Boat pose
Teaser
Lying twist
Double pigeon
Seated twist

One thing you can do to combat lower back pain is…wait for it…exercise! Yep. Good ol’ exercise. An interesting fact about endorphins (the chemical released when we workout) is that they can be JUST as strong as pain medication. This is because they work to block pain signals from registering in the brain. Woaah. Trippy, right?

As Jackelyn mentioned in the video, having a weak core can also contribute to lower back pain. This occurs because the muscles in your abs actually help support your lower spine. So when you strengthen and tone your abs, you’re ALSO helping your back!

Jackelyn also brought up having “tight glutes”. Having tight glutes and tight hamstrings can be factors in low back pain. If your sacroiliac joints are stressed, this leads to more pain. Stretch out your booty and hamstrings daily, if you can!

Working with cold and heat therapy can be beneficial with lower back pain. Cold therapy has two main benefits:

It reduces inflammation.
It works as a local anesthetic by slowing nerve impulses.

Applying heat to the painful area works in two ways:

Stimulates blood flow.
It stops pain messages from being signaled.

And of course, if pain persists or is really severe, please consult a doctor to make sure something else isn’t going on.
