Christian’s Outreach to Gays: I’m Sorry
Andrew Marin is trying to bridge a gap that has widened remarkably in recent years. It’s the gap between conservative Christians and the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender community.
Marin’s vision is bold and his commitment is deep. The evangelical and his wife recently bought their second home in Boystown, Illinois, — Chicago’s official gay neighborhood.
Ministry Reaches Out to Gay Community in Chicago
Stroll down the streets of Boystown and you’ll find a multi-faceted gay world — low-key couples carrying groceries and dining out in trendy restaurants — to the more flamboyant types and rainbow themes that abound everywhere.
Marin has lived in Boystown for 10 years. The densely populated neighborhood is the home to many gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered people and all the businesses that cater to them.
It’s not your typical ministry setting. However, Marin is about as comfortable here as any straight, fresh-from-the-suburbs type evangelical could hope to be.

About Andrew Marin and The Marin Foundation
Andrew Marin is the President and Founder of The Marin Foundation, which over the past dozen years has been widely credited with creating a new cultural category of building bridges between the LGBT community and social, theological, and political conservatives.
Andrew regularly lectures at universities and facilitates trainings for community groups around the world. His speech, Homophobia and Bridging from within the Evangelical Church, given on Capitol Hill the night before the first Inauguration of President Barack Obama, is archived in the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, DC.
Since 2010 Andrew has been asked by the United Nations to advise their various agencies on bridging opposing worldviews, civic engagement, and Christian involvement in reconciliation.
