Tennessee: Church Gifts $1,000 to Every Police Officer in Its Small Town
The congregation, Lighthouse Baptist Church in Jonesborough, Tenn., wanted to encourage the officers in light of criticism police have received nationally in recent months. They are receiving nationwide attention after honoring its local police department in a public ceremony with a gift of $1,000 for each officer.
According to Pastor Perry Cleek, “I think small towns all over America feel like we do: that we want our voice to be heard, that we love law enforcement – our local police officers. And if we can do something to support them and encourage them, then that’s what we want to do. And we feel very good about what we did.” […]
