Dr. Kari Ann Hong – How to Properly Brush Your Teeth and Floss:  Dr. Hong says the best way to help patients achieve long term dental health is by helping them know what to do at home on a daily basis to care for their teeth.  She says the biggest cause of tooth decay is what we eat and drink and the frequency in which we do it.

Every time we eat or drink something other than water, our water become more acidic during that time and for an additional 15 minutes afterward.  This acid is from the natural level of bacteria in our mouths that like to eat anything we ingest.  At the end of the day, it’s the acid that breaks down the tooth structure.  Dr. Hong goes on to explain how we should brush and floss our teeth, and the proper use of mouthwash.

Dental care is essential to your health. By taking proper care of your teeth, you’ll have a shiny smile and be able to avoid serious dental issues – and expense – in the future. Follow the advice from the following article to better understand how to take care of your teeth.

Brush your teeth at least two times a day. This is recommended by the ADA and is a very efficient way to avoid dental issues. Brushing your teeth should be a part of your daily routine that you don’t even have to think about. Don’t forget to floss when you brush.

If you have sensitive teeth, you may need to change toothpaste. Let your dentist know you are experiencing sensitivity. If your teeth are being aggravated by something aside from your toothpaste, your dentist should be able to let you know.

Brush After Every Meal

Brush your teeth right after every meal, and after consuming sugary foods and beverages. The longer you allow food residue and plaque to build up, the more damage your teeth will experience. Make a habit of brushing your teeth soon after finishing with a meal. And it will ultimately help prevent pain from toothaches.

Do not use a dirty toothbrush. Rinse your toothbrush when you are finished, and wait for it to dry. It is best to store your toothbrush upright in a toothbrush holder. This prevents the bristles from touching bacteria or germs on bathroom surfaces. Never store a toothbrush within an enclosed container as this is a breeding ground for bacteria. As soon as your toothbrush begins to show signs of wear, replace it promptly.

Dental Care for Sensitive Teeth

If you have sensitive teeth, consider switching to a sensitive toothpaste. If cold or hot foods and drinks bother you, you might have sensitive teeth or gums. It is vital that you discuss this issue with your dental care provider to rule out serious causes.

See your dentist regularly for the best in oral hygiene. You’ll reduce the risk of serious issues if you keep up with your dental check ups. A visit to your dentist will allow you to know that your mouth is clean and that your teeth are healthy. You can get anything that’s been a problem fixed too.

If you want stronger teeth, get some fluoride supplements. If you’ve got gum issues or you see that your teeth don’t remain white long, you may need to take fluoride. If you use an excess of fluoride, you will see yellow patches on the surface of your teeth. If that happens, stop the supplements and get rid of fluoride you get from other sources.

Read Toothpaste Labels

Make sure you read all toothpaste labels before making a purchase. The toothpaste for you should definitely contain a good amount of fluoride. Toothpaste can also contain abrasives that are included with the intent of helping to clean your teeth properly. If the toothpaste is to harsh, try to find one with less of these chemical abrasives.

There is nothing quite like having a beautiful smile. You’ll have a confidence-boosting smile, you won’t need expensive repairs, and your teeth will last a long time. As long as you put the above dental care tips to use, you will have the healthy mouth that you deserve and have always wanted.

Simply brushing after meals removes food fragments from around the teeth, between teeth, around gum lines, and and so on. Flossing each day will remove plaque build up the toothbrush can’t get to, and it’ll promote great dental health.
